Door County, WI – Friday, March 3rd is the final deadline for delegates to register for the eighth biennial Door/Kewaunee Legislative Days
event. The purpose of Legislative Days is to educate state officials about Door and Kewaunee Counties, and to lobby for state action to help address local issues and concerns. Legislative Days 2017 will take place in Madison on Wednesday and Thursday, April 5-6.
Some of the major Door/Kewaunee Legislative Days 2017 agenda topics will be:
- Support for additional funding for improving rural broadband;
- Support funding for river restoration based on the existing Total Maximun Daily Load process;
- Support for legislative bills constituting the Wisconsin Rural Initaitive;
- Opposition to the proposed repeal of statewide school start date standard.
Critical to the success of this event is the active participation of at least 100 Door and Kewaunee County citizen representatives, so that at least one local delegate will visit with every legislator. The cost to participate for delegates is only $30, made possible by a variety of area financial sponsors
. The subsidized fee includes three meals and a logo polo shirt. Training sessions will be held prior to the event, so anyone can participate. Anyone interested in participating in Legislative Days can register at http://www.dklegislativedays.com/register/ no later than Friday, March 3.
For those unsure about attending, the Legislative Days Steering Committee is hosting three public information sessions, where participants can learn how Legislative Days works, the program’s history and past accomplishments, how the legislative and state agency agendas are developing, about the role of delegates, logistics, or scheduling and ask any questions about the event itself.
